Are You Aware? Slavery and Human Trafficking in the US

There are many “awareness” months and days in America now, which draw our attention to important issues and concerns. One issue of particular concern to me and Orange County Rescue Mission is human trafficking. January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and I want to do my part in raising awareness.

Human trafficking is a worldwide issue of great concern. But several years ago, I was shocked to realize that wealthy, metropolitan areas in the United States, such as my own Orange County, have become desirable markets of human traffickers. Victims of human trafficking are taken from other communities in America and brought here to southern California.

As my awareness of human trafficking grew, I knew that we could position our resources at Orange County Rescue Mission to help women fleeing from a trafficker. Our Village of Hope campus has become a rescue and emergency shelter. And, in partnership with other faith-based community organizations, we have a program we call Strong Beginnings. We can receive women looking for an escape any day and time, give them safe shelter, and provide the unique care survivors need. Our specially trained staff then help women transition to long-term programs designed to help survivors.

No doubt, as you increase your awareness of this horrific crisis, you may want to do something about it. To learn more and to donate, go to

Local Businesses Help Raise over 50K Meals at the 8th Annual Turkey Trot OC 5K

Race sponsors and over 1,200 race participants alike helped Orange County Rescue Mission to raise 50,596 meals for Orange County’s homeless and hungry families in need. We are beyond thrilled with a record turnout and support from our community!

The help and support we receive from local businesses is one of the many reasons we are continuously able to offer meaningful, life-changing programs to our Rescue Mission students of all ages. These donations also contribute to the Rescue Mission’s efforts to help those in need within the greater community, whether it is in the form of food boxes or hot meals served by our Chili Van.

Cars and Guitars Grand Opening Event, Featuring these Orange County Local Businesses

Promoted as a Celebration of All Things Leo Fender and Hot Rod Car Show, MAC Speed & Custom’s Grand Opening, held in the old Fender Guitar Factory did not disappoint! Eric Minor and his crew, Rob Jolly of Jim’s Music Center, and folks from Godspeed Motorcycle Club all drew a crowd to celebrate the opening and benefit Orange County Rescue Mission.

Eric has a reputation for his support of local charities and people who need some extra help and encouragement. It was an honor to be included among those he has supported.

Thank you, MAC Speed & Custom, Jim’s Music Center, Rob Thorn of Fender, and Godspeed MC for a great event and your support of Orange County neighbors in need!

#GivingTuesday & a $20,000 match!

Today it’s officially #GivingTuesday, and all across the world, people are giving back to help those who are less fortunate.

Starting today, I want to give you an opportunity to have your donation MATCHED as part of Orange County Rescue Mission’s $20,000 Match Campaign.

This match is especially beneficial since we are 100% privately funded without any money from the government! This time is the perfect way to double your impact here at Orange County Rescue Mission as we serve the Least, the Last, and the Lost here in our community.

Your gift of any amount, starting right now, will help twice as many people when you give. It will make a tremendous difference in the lives of the homeless men, women, children, and veterans we serve.

Thank you so much from all of us at Orange County Rescue Mission for helping to end homelessness, one life at a time.
