By the age of 14, Otis had already become a full-fledged gang member.
Up until that point, all that Otis had seen modeled in his life was the family business — filled with drugs, drinking, gangs, and violence. These things soon defined Otis’ life as well.
But when drug addiction followed Otis into his marriage and continued after starting a family, he soon found himself divorced, homeless, and broken.
Otis was living in a motel with his daughter Annie, who was dealing with her own loss and grief, when he first felt a strong conviction that it was time to say “yes” to God’s plan for their life.
Eventually, God faithfully guided Otis and his daughter to the Rescue Mission.
Thanks to YOUR support, Otis and his daughter found everything they needed to build a new life, including safe housing, parenting classes, counseling, and community.
Through his volunteer work, Otis has built a solid foundation for returning to the workforce, and he’s now training for a position in public transportation.
Meanwhile, Annie is preparing to enter her freshman year of high school, and she has already shown herself to be a strong leader. Since their move to Village of Hope, she has made quality friendships, improved her grades to a 4.0 GPA, and is now thriving in a community of people who want to see her succeed.
Of their new life, Otis says, “It’s amazing what God can do with our stories. Through our brokenness, God’s light can shine. He’s doing something. All things work together for His good.”
