Amber and Kalob were celebrating two years of sobriety when tragedy struck.

Kalob’s sister was paralyzed in a car wreck, and Amber’s son experienced two fentanyl overdoses.

“All the things happening to our family really broke us,” Kalob said. “I pushed God out of my life and wanted to drink everything away.”

Kalob was eventually hospitalized for a suicide attempt. After he was released, the couple made a life-changing decision to leave everything behind and remove themselves from the environment that contributed to their way of life.

They decided to pursue sobriety again, even though it meant starting in separate programs for eight months. Eventually, they reconnected at Orange County Rescue Mission to start their lives over, together and in a sober community.

Amber and Kalob were able to come find healing through therapy, grief classes, Christ-centered relationships, and so much more.
