Chili Van Mobile Ministry
Under the leadership of the Orange County Rescue Mission, the Chili Van mobile food ministry is able to provide a warm meal to hundreds of people who are either homeless or don’t have enough money to put food on the table each day. The newly renovated vehicle provides hot meals, beverages, and bread to thousands of at-risk people in poverty-stricken areas of Orange County every Tuesday and Thursday night. On a typical evening, the team, led by volunteer Brian Crain, serves an average of 315 portions of chili, coffee and fresh bakery bread. In addition, they pass out Bibles and pray with those who would like it.
The outreach unexpectedly began after the Orange County Rescue Mission donated a 35-pound chocolate Santa Claus to His Chaplain For You, a chaplaincy provider working in collaboration with various local churches and counseling ministries. Its founder, Roy Gerber, was looking for a way to share it with the homeless at Christmas, so he called to ask his friends to donate some chili, bread and coffee to provide a complete meal to the homeless at Christmas. Thus was born the Chili Van mobile food ministry. For more information please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 714-247-4368 or email [email protected]
