Why Did the Turkey Cross the Road?-

November 13, 2014

Why did the Turkey cross the road? To help those in need!

The Orange County Rescue Mission is hosting its first annual Turkey Trot event, a 5K run/walk, on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 27, 2014 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am, at the Orange County Rescue Mission’s Village of Hope in Tustin, California.

The goal of this event is to raise enough money to provide 50,000 meals to those less fortunate families and individuals throughout Orange County.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to walk or run side by side with formerly homeless individuals living at the Village of Hope, as well as other community members and community officials. This event will not only be a fun way to build a sense of community, but will help to raise funds and awareness for the needs of those less fortunate in our community.

The Turkey Trot OC 5K will start and finish at the Orange County Rescue Mission’s transitional living facility, the Village of Hope, with a majority of the event taking place on Valencia Avenue along the former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station base.

We know that no Thanksgiving celebration would be complete without sharing a meal, so participants will be invited to enjoy a special post-run breakfast including delicious pumpkin pancakes with maple syrup, smoked bacon, and freshly ground coffee.

The Turkey Trot OC is also an excellent way for families to show their children the importance of giving back during the holidays, and remind them to be thankful for all that they have.

Thanksgiving was built on the principles of sharing, generosity and giving. With that in mind, we must not forget that there are those among us who are hungry and homeless, and need our assistance.

Those interested in taking part in the first annual Turkey Trot OC are encouraged to register online.

Registration prices are as follows:

  • Registration only: $30
  • Registration and 7 hot meals for homeless: $35.36
  • Registration and 14 hot meals for homeless: $45.72
  • Registration and 34 hot meals for homeless: $75.32
  • Registration and 51 hot meals for homeless: $100.48
  • VIP Registration and 100 hot meals for homeless: $173

The special VIP Registration includes reserved parking, priority check-in, Restoration Roasters coffee and a VIP table for the pancake breakfast.
