Superheroes in Disguise-

April 26, 2017

We appreciate our volunteers! Volunteering is a natural extension of someone’s abilities, gifts and desire to contribute to something greater than themselves. The Rescue Mission is daily blessed by the contributions of so many wonderful friends. Our community wouldn’t be what it is today without the volunteers that tirelessly give of their time and talents.

These volunteers help make the Rescue Mission work, and are part of the community life. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them and to introduce you to them.

Who exactly are Rescue Mission volunteers?

Rescue Mission volunteers make up a diverse group that reflects all ages and walks of life, from high school students to retirees. You will find different clubs, schools, churches, and corporations represented. Volunteers come as groups or individuals, some once a year, and some volunteer once a week. So many of our volunteers maintain active social and career lives, but still make time to come to the Rescue Mission.

One characteristic that all of our volunteers share is their humility and selflessness, which shines through in their service. They offer their passions for areas such as education, childcare, food service, sports, and cosmetology, and incorporate them into the life of the Rescue Mission.

Each volunteer offers a unique personality and perspective that brings something new to the Rescue Mission. It is a joy and an immense help to us to see volunteers take ownership and responsibility for the areas they contribute to, by offering new ideas and methods of how we can better equip and support the residents we serve.

Our volunteers bring joy and fun to the life of the Rescue Mission when they host special events like birthday parties and holiday events. There is something so impact full when people come together for the sake of rejoicing together and celebrating one another.

Regular volunteers build meaningful friendships with our residents, that are helpful to them on their journey to self-sufficiency. Volunteers spend time investing in our students, and help them see their own value and reach untapped potentials. This support is not only encouraging, but often just the push a person needs to believe he or she can continue on when recovery is difficult.

Most importantly, our volunteers share an immense passion for the work being done at the Rescue Mission.

On behalf of the Rescue Mission, I would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers. The individuals and groups that give their time and share their gifts with us are truly superheroes in disguise. They are daily making an impact on the lives of the Least, Last, and Lost, and caring for the hurting and broken of our community. In the words of a volunteer, “It is easy to make a buck, but it is harder to make a difference.” And our volunteers do make a difference! Thank you, Rescue Mission volunteers!

If you are interested in joining the Rescue Mission volunteer community, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Marley, at (714) 247-4368 or volunteers@rescuemission.org!
