Like many hard-working moms, Sharon had a challenging life. But she was making it.

Her third child, born three months premature, changed all of that. The infant had significant health problems that required Sharon to take a lot of time off of work. Her employer finally gave her an ultimatum: miss less work, or find another job.

She tried working part time, but that didn’t pay enough to support her family. To make ends meet, Sharon says, “I had to go to food banks and pay bills with credit cards. I was afraid and hopeless.”

Very soon, she ran out of options. When that happened, she thought she was going to be homeless. So, with no way to make it on her own, Sharon looked to the Rescue Mission for help. “I knew if I didn’t go to the Rescue Mission, I would end up on the streets.”

Thanks to you and other caring partners, Sharon found just what she needed. She and her kids moved to our Village of Hope, where they found a community of support.

Through our comprehensive program, Sharon received spiritual counseling that has strengthened her faith dramatically, mentoring in life skills, help with her employment search, and so much more.

And her children have found greater stability. Sharon really appreciates what the Mission did to help her children get through the remote learning process required by local schools during the COVID-19 crisis.

Most important to Sharon: all of this has been offered to her family within an environment of faith.

“I feel so much stronger and confident,” says Sharon. “And my daughter’s health has improved tremendously.”

When she first came to the Rescue Mission, Sharon says she felt completely lost.

“But I’m not afraid anymore. People have come alongside us. I’ve never experienced so many people genuinely wanting to see me succeed.”

Sharon also has great gratitude for what you and others have done to help her. “I think the donors are amazing,” she says. “I work in the volunteer department. It blows my mind how many people call to serve. I pray that one day I can be in that position. That’s what the Lord calls us to do.”
