The Rescue Mission is searching for a part time employee to provide Respite (relief or a break) to our Girls Home Parents every other weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Occasionally there will be pre-scheduled vacations or leave of absences that will require a respite Parent to provide coverage as well. Preferably we would like this person to provide that coverage, but may be able to negotiate (please ask). The best candidates for this position must be able to live On-site at the home location every other weekend only on a regular basis. This position will help maintain the schedule of the program house parent in their absence while meeting the daily emotional, educational, and Biblical needs for our group of teen girls while working towards reunification between the teens and their parents by providing a safe, loving, Christ centered home. The Respite Parent will provide some or all of the required needs and duties in the absence of the Home Parent but all duties may not apply due to the weekend scheduling.
Job Duties (may add, change or delete as needed by the organization):
- During the school year, ensure that teen is attending all classes and completing all homework and assignments.).
- Manage, administer and document all medications to (individual) residents, if needed.
- Provide safe transportation to and from school, church and youth group functions, counseling appointments, doctors’ appointments (as needed), and Girls Home group outings.
- Keep all resident charts up to date as required by California Department of Social Services licensing division. Including resident initial screening, intake packet, TB test, current physical, current school transcripts, and Needs and Service Plan/Goals.
- Make sure that the resident and their parents are actively involved in weekly family and individual counseling.
- Facilitate an ongoing relationship with the resident and their parents. Teach and encourage parents in adapting the Girls Home ideals in parenting and communication with their teen. Always be open to counsel and listening to both teen and parents.
- Establish a regular consistent schedule for Girls Home Rules & Expectations: assign chores, weekly laundry schedule, and room checks for cleanliness. Daily shower schedule and personal hygiene health requirements. Weekend family based chores that we may work as a family/community to accomplish projects for Girls Home. This encourages learning/training skills for community and personal pride.
- Provide positive life skills educational opportunities for personal growth: Meal preparation with healthy available food for breakfast and lunch, laundry and cleaning skills, home maintenance or other requested.
- Oversees all policies and procedures in collaboration with direct supervisor. Working and staying within a monthly budget to provide meals, transportations, and activities for the residents.
- Provide daily light housekeeping, healthy balanced meals/snacks and necessary material needs.
- Mentor and establish daily growth in Christ by assisting residents through biblical counsel, listening, prayer and in completing their Individualized Treatment Plan, which may include resolving scheduling, relational, and programmatic conflicts and family reunification.
- Assure implementation of and continued adherence to Girls Home program policies and procedures by the Case Management team.
- Assure quality and coordination of services or each resident teen. Assess and monitor progress, challenges, record keeping, and chart audits. Watch for emotional changes, suicidal behavior, and any personal harm. Participate in any individual or family counseling as required by the therapist or clients. Report any sign of abuse.
- Ensures that teens adhere to all rules, regulations, and daily schedules while providing appropriate disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal from program as needed.
- Administer and approve passes and phone calls for teens according to guidelines.
- Provides accountability to ensure that all records, case information, progress notes, and personal information are entered in both the case management database and hardcopy files according to established guidelines.
- Participates in Girl Home group programs and instruction sessions including random observation and auditing case manager led group meetings to assess conformity.
- Stay in communication with RM management staff to assess and monitor progress of individual teens, program challenges, record keeping, and chart audits.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and unobstructed living/home space including common house areas and House Coordinator living quarters. The Girls Home should always be ready for a possible tour and intake.
- A personal relationship with Jesus, good working knowledge of the Bible, member of a Bible believing Church, a completed and signed OC Rescue Mission employment application with the Statement of Faith.
- Live in residential (home) property as needed, typically 2-3 days every other week, and 1-2 weeks per year to cover for full-time staff vacations.
- Background Clearance from the County of Orange Social Services Department is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Ministry or Education is strongly preferred. An education equivalency may be considered for the candidate with more related work experience (please ask).
- A minimum of 2-3 years working with youth/teens in crisis through ministry, social work, psychology or education.
- Basic knowledge of the education system for middle/high school enrollment and management.
- Knowledge and experience working with parents and children in crisis with the ability to recognize and communicate urgent situation to the appropriate people while maintaining confidentiality of information.
- Christ-centered behavior (treating people with dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity) at all times.
- Detail oriented, organized with the ability to accomplish administrative tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with versatility to communicate with youth and professional staff.
- Self-motivated with the ability to be flexible working individually and as a member of a team.
- Experienced using Microsoft Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer). Case Management database/software is desired but not required (must be willing to learn and become proficient when employed)
- Maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (if not certified, willing to become).
- Acceptable driving record (MVR in accordance with our insurance carrier, less than 2 DMV points on driving record).
- Continue work as an essential worker in times of community crisis and disaster emergencies.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing biological conditions, which may be unhealthful or hazardous (such as bodily fluids and waste, germs, childhood diseases).
