Hurtt Family Clinic Chiropractic-

September 16, 2016

The Orange County Rescue Mission functions in large part due to the support of community partners. The Village of Hope campus is home to not only residential facilities for the homeless, but also several clinics and groups that serve in various ways to benefit the broken and lost of our community. I am grateful for these collaborations with partners that serve with us, that we otherwise would not have for students.

Among these is the Southern California University of Health Sciences’ chiropractic clinic. Senior interns from SCUHS, overseen by practitioners, donate their time to provide chiropractic services to our residents and patients of the Hurtt Family Health Clinic. Their work helps provide relief for chronic pain and injuries  that would otherwise go untreated.

Southern California University of Health Sciences holds community outreach as a high priority and has been involved with the Rescue Mission since the Village of Hope opened its gates in 2008. Dr. Gene Tobias originally began the chiropractic clinic as a way to serve the Mission while also providing the interns with valuable career experience.

Meanwhile, Dr. Melany Meier ran her own practice in Tustin for almost 20 years and was very familiar with the Mission’s work in the community. She took over the chiropractic clinic in 2010 and has been serving with us ever since!  Dr. Meier now supervises the Southern California University of Health Science interns here at the Orange County Rescue Mission as well as oversees Outreach Services for the school.

“I can’t think of anything else like the Mission,” says Dr. Meier. “It is a way up for people.” She and the interns have the unique opportunity of seeing many of our residents, their patients, each week as they work with them to provide relief for various injuries and conditions. Over time, they have a front row seat to the growth and transformation that happens in the lives of those that were once lost and hurting.

Dr. Meier and the SCUHS interns are an integral part of the community here at the Village of Hope. Because of their generosity and service, the Mission is able to provide whole-body wellness and care – spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional – on the journey to restoration.

I received treatment at OCRM from one of your resident trainees back in April, 2017. Ever since then, on several weekly occasions, I have had severe neck pain, accompanied with migraine headaches. I believe this was a direct result from a neck cracking adjustment I received and I would really like to get this resolved. Life has been painful and miserable when the onset of this occurs and I have had no real headaches or pain before. I am not blaming anyone for this, but would like to get this resolved, as I currently have no insurance and my quality of life has really gone down hill. I did not know that my neck was going to be cracked and would not have consented, as I have heard many horror stories in regards to this practice. It was a sudden unexpected adjustment and the trainee had been commenting on how tense I was which surprised me that she’d do a neck cracking on someone who wasn’t relaxed. I’m certain we can work this out, as I have always been treated fairly by the staff at OCRM.
