Spare Change vs Life Change

SHARE

The philosophy behind the Rescue Mission is that we offer a hand up, not just a hand out; we offer life change, rather than spare change.

One of the instrumental aspects of our program is our Success Center sponsored by Sunwest Bank and Southern California Edison. This resource offers our students the tools needed to find and maintain employment through career counseling, GED on-line preparatory classes, resume development, job search activities, interviewing, financial asset building, including credit repair, and employment support and guidance.

During the 18-24 month timeline of the program at the Rescue Mission, students initially follow a schedule of group meetings, classes and counseling. Once a case manager determines a student ready to enter into a position of employment, every individual attends a week-long intensive job search training called the Road to Success Workshop. The Road to Success job workshop is a training to prepare our students for the road ahead, entering into job search and future employment.

When we dream about ending homelessness, this is just one way that we see life change, rather than handing spare change to those struggling on the streets. These men and women have the potential to be restored to successful employees and workers, they just need the time, tools and investment to be equipped for achievement.

Today we celebrate the completion and accomplishment of yet another group of men and women who will be hitting the competitive world of employment, searching for purpose and the application of their skills. We have seen hundreds of our graduates transition into employment and successfully rebuild their savings and financial security.
