PCE Assistant – Temporary Part Time

The Orange County Rescue Mission is looking for an experienced part-time childcare assistant to assist temporarily in the Parent and Child Enrichment Center.  This position will assist to guide, educate and model programs for parents that are designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth consistent with the Vision and Goal of the Parenting Center. This position works an evening shift preparing for the following morning PCE Assistant shift and their duties.  This position is scheduled to work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm-8:30pm and as needed for Graduations, Holidays and Events.

VISION for the Village of Hope’s parenting and child enrichment center is to provide parents with practical, Biblical, heart-based parent training and their children with a safe and secure environment for their enrichment and preparation for school.

GOAL is to develop, empower, encourage, and strengthen Biblically focused families.

The three fold APPROACH is to Provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for children; Perform and learn positive and nurturing parenting/care-giving responsibilities, techniques, and strategies; Facilitate and supervise play and educational activities for children.  We provide this approach via an onsite program through the parents and guardians that live and volunteer within the Village of Hope.

Job Duties (duties are subject to change as needed by the department):

  • Provide Biblical training and guidance to parents through observation, constructive feedback, modelling and educational instruction.
  • Work closely with each parent’s Case Manager to ensure that parenting goals are integrated and supported within the parent’s individualized treatment plan.
  • Plan, execute and maintain a file of weekly activities that allows parents to provide their children with age appropriate instruction.
  • Set up and maintain a safe, attractive, developmentally appropriate environment for parents to encourage children in the areas of autonomy, creativity and particularly individual and group problem solving.
  • Conduct ongoing observations of the parents enrolled in the program.  Maintain an anecdotal record in order to assess each parent’s interaction and progress, and child’s construction of knowledge and overall developmental progress.
  • Develop and assist parents in facilitating activities that will promote healthy social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of each child, allowing the child to feel accepted and free to express feelings.
  • Maintain attendance records and parent/child progress reports.
  • Keep an inventory of materials needed.
  • Supervise and serve snacks and meals.
  • Ensure that parents are following proper safety precautions and procedures.
  • Assist the parents and children in keeping outside and inside play areas clean and orderly.
  • Ensure supplies are put away and parents are making sure that children’s areas are prepared, organized and clean for the following day.
  • Supervise parents with toilet training their children and assist when needed.
  • Instruct parents and children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care (hand washing, diaper changing, nose wiping, etc.).
  • Guide parents to help their children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books.

Specialized Job Shift Duties (duties may change as determined by management/department):

  • Afternoon and Evening Coordinator
  • Determine daily worker schedules
  • Oversee Summer to remember
  • Provide classroom assistance as needed
  • Monthly performance review for student workers
  • Determination of classroom placement for children- afternoon/evenings
  • Afternoon School pick up

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A relationship with Jesus Chris, a completed OC Rescue Mission Employment Application with a Statement of Faith.
  • Christ-centered behavior, i.e., treating people with dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity at all times.
  • High school diploma plus 9 college units in Child Human Development Good working knowledge of the Bible.
  • Experience working with parents and their children. Must be able to relate well to adults, children and work effectively with other adults/parents.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge and experience working with individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to effectively meet required deadlines.
  • A pleasant personality to people you are speaking to on the telephone, visitors, and company personnel.
  • The ability to act and think promptly and professionally.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our insurance carrier, less than 2 DMV points on driving record).
  • Provide and use his/her personal vehicle for job-related travel and ensure that it has valid insurance that meets at least the State of California’s minimum basic requirements.
  • Maintain membership in good standing status at a local Bible-believing church.
