Volunteer Opportunities
We’re excited that you are interested in volunteering at the OCRM! Offering your time and skills is one great way to serve alongside the staff and residents, by supporting both the vision and work of the Rescue Mission. We have two basic ways you can get involved:
Volunteer Staff
One of ways is to become Volunteer Staff, which entails a regular, weekly shift, and requires a level of time and commitment. This is an immense opportunity to really get involved at the Mission, build relationships with staff and residents, and see change and progress happen over time.
Openings:
Child Care: Weekly shifts are available both during the regular working day (Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 4:30pm) as well as in the evenings (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Saturday, 6:45pm to 8:30pm)! Job duties depend on the shift, but generally entail helping the staff with their child care program, or watching the children while their parents are in group meetings, counseling, etc. This is our greatest ongoing need!
Licensed Medical Professionals: We are looking for nurses, doctors, dentists, etc. that are willing to give of their time to serve our residents at our transitional housing facility, as well as travel on our mobile medical units within Orange County and serve the homeless in our community. Times vary. The application involves a credentialing process.
Chefs/Culinary Students: We are looking for chefs or culinary students who can commit to a shift, helping prepare a meal for 150-500 people. Shifts are generally 6 hours and on a weekly basis.
Hair Stylists: We are looking for stylists who can come in and cut hair in our on-site salon! Times vary. Our greatest need is for stylists that are available in the evenings or on weekends.
Sponsor a Monthly Birthday Party: We host monthly birthday parties for our residents, in which we celebrate all the residents (men, women, and children) who have had a birthday that month. This is a great group activity, and would involve bringing cakes, and a birthday card with a $10 Starbucks gift card for that month’s resident birthdays. There are usually 8-12 adult birthdays per month. (The overall cost is about $200.) Your group can come and join our staff and the residents for dinner in our dining hall, and then celebrate the birthdays for dessert!
Host a Drive (Urgent Needs, Food, or Hygiene Kits): We are in need of continual support for daily operating costs. You can hold a drive and collect needed items at your school, church, place of employment, community center, or neighborhoods-it’s an easy and very significant way to support the Rescue Mission! This is the best way for volunteers under the age of 13 to get involved! Please click here for more information on holding a drive.
