What's missing in Orange County is more than just a park or an airport!

Over 35,000 people here need hope for the future — and a place to call home. Thousands of men, women and children are living on the streets of Orange County right now. They don’t have homes — or hope for the future. And there are only enough emergency shelter beds to accommodate 4% of the homeless in our county.

Homeless families here have it especially tough. There are very few options for single-parent families, and virtually none for families with moms and dads. To get help, they have to split up into separate programs for women, men and children in different locations. Families who have withstood homelessness together are then torn apart.

That’s why the Village of Hope is so important. The Village of Hope is the first place in Orange County where homeless and poor families can transform their lives while staying together. It will provide much more than just a roof over their heads and warm meals to fill their stomachs. The Village of Hope’s faith-based residential program will teach homeless families and adults to become self-sufficient at no cost to them. It is the Orange County Rescue Mission’s most ambitious project to date.

Transforming Lives by Transforming a Military Base...

Five acres of the former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station is being converted into The Village of Hope – a haven designed to heal hurting families. It will provide housing for a total of 192 homeless men, women and children, with facilities for 36 families and 88 single adults. The Village of Hope will include 128 dorm rooms, a child development center, playground, parent education center, vocational training classrooms, health care facility, donation warehouse, and support offices. There will also be a cafeteria with an outdoor dining area, and vegetable gardens. An eight-foot, ornate metal fence will surround the Village, providing visual interest and security.

The Orange County Rescue Mission will rehabilitate two existing barracks buildings to use as transitional housing. Two new buildings will be constructed. A 40,000-square foot building will serve as the hub for the Village, and will include a kitchen and dining areas, warehouse, and office space for support staff. A chapel/ auditorium will also be built. When completed, the Village of Hope will serve as a national model, demonstrating how to successfully redevelop closed U.S. military bases to help the homeless.          Top

Community Partners Pitch in to Help Build Hope

The city of Tustin awarded the site to the Orange County Rescue Mission to build the Village of Hope. The land and buildings are valued at an estimated $8 million.

Many talented and generous partners have come forward to donate their services and support. HomeAid Orange County, the community outreach arm of the Building Industry Association, is leading the Village of Hope partnership. This partnership exemplifies the generosity of many entities uniting to help homeless Orange County families. More than $7 million in engineering, construction materials, labor and services will be sought by HomeAid and the Village of Hope.

Oltmans Construction Company, the project’s Builder Captain, is providing labor, management and supervision. Oltmans is also receiving pledges from trade partners, associations and suppliers who are donating their services, materials and talents. Two highly honored architectural firms, Axcess Architects and Gensler, are the designers of the Village of Hope. They are providing plans, architectural and engineering support. With more than 75 partners on board to date, the Village of Hope promises to be a triumph for the Orange County Rescue Mission and HomeAid alliance.

The Orange County Rescue Mission Has Delivered Hope for Over 40 Years

The Orange County Rescue Mission has a long history of giving hope. We offer dozens of programs to provide the homeless with shelter, food, clothing, guidance, counseling, education, job training, parenting classes and child care. Our faith-focused mission is to minister the love of Jesus Christ to the least, the last and the lost

Our success rate is ten times the national average — 85% of the men and women who graduate from our New Life programs become self-sufficient. We operate entirely through donations without government welfare funding. The Orange County Rescue Mission is one of Orange County’s largest private nonprofit organizations.

Our other shelters include the Emergency Shelter in Santa Ana with 65 beds for homeless men, and the 45-bed House of Hope for homeless women and their children. Yet our current facilities can’t accommodate Orange County’s 35,000 homeless people, and there’s not enough shelter for families to stay together while they heal. The Village of Hope will be a shining ray of hope for Orange County’s homeless.

Committed to the Poor, Accountable to You

The Orange County Rescue Mission helps you assist the poor in the most cost-effective way possible. We take extra care to use every penny efficiently.

As part of that effort, we are governed by an independent Board of Directors. We are also a member in good standing of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). Upon your request, we will send you an audited financial statement prepared by an independent certified public accountant.

Over the last eight years we have averaged only a 14% overhead with 86%—or 86 cents for every dollar—going directly to homeless programs and services. If gifts exceed the project’s cost, the surplus will be used for Mission programs where the need is greatest.

Your support is greatly appreciated. With your help the Orange County Rescue Mission works to make our community a better place for everyone to live.          Top
