Operation Hope Clients

The Operation Hope Department’s target population is homeless or poverty stricken men, women and children of all ages, who are not being reached by other agencies or who will not go to an agency for assistance. The Operation Hope Department has an increasing focus on young families living in run-down, drug-infested motel rooms throughout the County. There are 34,998 homeless people in Orange County. Out of that number, less than 1,169 are being served by existing emergency shelter beds.

This means that there are potentially 33,829 homeless individuals and family members in need of emergency and transitional shelter services on any given day. These 33,829 homeless people make up the core client group for the Operation Hope Team.

Many of these homeless are in need of support services which include: job training, case management, substance abuse treatment, mental health care assessment and treatment, housing assistance and placement, and life skills training.

Department Vision

Beaking the cycle of homelessness for families and individuals in a manner that makes disciples of Jesus Christ.

Department Mission

To serve the Least, the Last, and the Lost who are living on the streets or in inadequate housing by offering hope through assistance with spiritual, physical and mental needs.          Top

Strong Beginnings Program

The Operation Hope Team provides a program to break the cycle of homelessness, bring stability, and maximize self-sufficiency for families desiring permanent housing. The coaches work with the families to address each barrier to their stability. The program can be described with three tiers. The goal at the first tier is to prevent homelessness by stabilizing families and providing emergency assistance during episodic periods of crisis. The focus of the second tier is providing self-sufficiency-related services that enable families to take the first step to transition from homelessness to stable, permanent housing. The third tier aims to stabilize the family with the ultimate goal of a transition into safe and permanent housing.

Food Assistance Program

Currently, the Operation Hope Team provides over 325,000 meals annually through the Mobile Food Pantry, fixed pantry sites and our Church Partners.

Bible Study Program

The Operation Hope Team provides an ongoing spiritual presence at residential motels by involving churches in their own neighborhoods to help meet the spiritual needs of those living in the motels. This is accomplished by involving leaders from local churches in leading Bible studies for motel residents.

Church Partnership Program

The Operation Hope Team provides technical support to churches that want to assist families in the motels. The Church Partnership Program connects the churches with motels and supplies the materials to minister to those in the motels. Available aids are: The Technology Education Vehicle, the New Life Mobile Medical Clinic, Mobile Food Pantry, Training (general and specific topics such as Suicide Prevention, Abuse, Substance Abuse, How to run a Food Pantry, How to run a Bible Study/Children’s Ministry), clothing, and food. We currently have a growing list of 37 partnerships with churches throughout Orange County.          Top

Veterans Ministry

The Operation Hope Team has partnered with Pointman Ministries to service the homeless veterans of our county by ministering veteran-to-veteran. Assistance is provided for emergency needs, military documents and benefits, and Bible studies.

Mental Wellness Ministry

The Operation Hope Team includes a Strong Beginnings Mental Welness Program Director and clinical staff.
