Department Purpose: The Purpose of the Men's Shelter and House of Hope is to provide our New Life Clients an essential curriculum that will enable clients, by the help of God, to reconstruct their lives, using a holistic (spiritual, physical, relational and vocatioinal) approach in a residential environment. This program gives them the skills needed to become productive Christian members of society. Programs and Ministries: Working with the Vice President of Programs, the Facility Managers will direct strategic ministry planning for client services, recovery programs and new facility development. The following programs and services are core components in the New Life Residential Program: Celebrate Recovery This is a drug, alcohol, tobacco and “other” addictions abstinence program that all New Life and current clients will be enrolled in. Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that is based on the actual words of Jesus as evidenced in the Beatitudes. This recovery program is unique, and very effective in helping people change. Education Program The program works with residents at two levels:
Crown Financial Ministries This Bible study curriculum will teach our Residents important independence skills. Crown Financial Ministries teaches living skills such as budgeting, balancing a checkbook, and getting out of debt. These skills, often left unnoticed, are necessary in the transition to self-sufficiency. Career Direction During the last 6 to 9 months of the Residential program, the New Life clients are going through their transition phase. Assessment/aptitude tests, called “Career-Direct” from Crown Financial Ministries, are given to all clients to ensure each individual will find the most suitable career possible. With a career goal in mind, the clients will then begin specialization training to help them move into the work force. These career skills can be obtained through the Regional Occupational Program of Orange County, Orange County community colleges, or by interning at a local company. The specialized skills they learn will move them closer to finding a job that will be able to support them when they transition to living on their own. Physical Fitness/Nutrition In order to meet the physical and nutritional needs of our clients, each client will receive training in healthy eating and tips on shopping effectively for nutritious food. In addition, they will participate in regular exercise as a complement to the nutritional emphasis. Christian Parenting A parenting program entitled “Active Christian Parenting” will focus on teaching our clients how to show love to their children and how to use proper discipline techniques. Spiritual Wellness This program is designed to teach the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith through general Bible studies, while also providing the biblical guidelines for conduct through the application of God’s word to all areas of life. The program also teaches the power and effectiveness of personal communion with God through daily prayer times. |
