Who are the partners developing the Village of Hope?

The Village of Hope is a partnership between the Orange County Rescue Mission, HomeAid OC, Oltmans Construction, Lennar Communities, the City of Tustin and many individual, corporate and foundation donors.          top

Who is funding the acquisition and construction costs of the Village of Hope?

The Village of Hope is a community-wide effort. The total project cost is $25 million. The funding for this is provided through a capital campaign. The land and barrack structures at the Tustin Marine Corps Air Facility have been committed and are valued at $8 million, and $5 million in in-kind gifts have been donated from other sources. Gensler Architects, the world’s largest architectural firm, and Axcess Architects are donating all fees and design plans, along with Oltmans Construction who is providing the rehab and new construction pro bono.

How many people will be served at the Village of Hope?

Housing will be provided for a total population of 192 people. Forty-four single men, 44 single women for a total of 88 single adults will be served through 64 housing units. Thirty-six families, or 104 people, will be served through 36 housing units.

How will the Village of Hope maintain safety for the community?

The Village of Hope has been designed in cooperation with the Tustin Police Department. There will be 24-hour on-site security, along with accountability for clients.          top

Will the Village of Hope become a magnet and attract street people to the City of Tustin?

No, the Village of Hope will not become a magnet for bringing street people to Tustin. It will not receive walk-ins or function as a soup kitchen.

How large will the Village of Hope be?

The Village of Hope will be made up of nearly 150,000 square feet of space situated on a five-acre site. It will feature a fully computerized adult learning center, a 6,000 square foot health care center, child development center, and a life-skills and parenting-skills training center

What are the ages of the children that will be living at the Village of Hope?

It is anticipated that the Village of Hope will house children anywhere from birth to the age of 12.

Where will the school-age children attend school?

The children at the Village of Hope will attend school at Veeh Elementary School in Tustin. This school is located 1.5 miles from the facility on San Juan Street.

How long will clients reside at the facility?

The recovery program will be designed to facilitate full transition within a range of two to 24 months. The “New Start” program lasts for 60 days and the New Life Program is an 18-month residential program. It is anticipated that the average stay will be 12 months.

Will there be any partnership with the neighboring community college?

The Village of Hope is strategically located next to the Advanced Technology and Education Park of South Orange County, which will provide vocational training opportunities.          top

How will single men/women be segregated at the co-ed facility?

The housing at the Village of Hope will consist of two separate 40,000 square foot buildings. Each floor will only be accessed by card key and monitored by video. One building will be designated for women, the other for men. Only the residents of each building will have access to their specific floor.

Will there be any cost to the participants?

The Orange County Rescue Mission does not charge for any of the services it provides.

What type of programs and classes will be offered?

Participants will be evaluated during the beginning of their stay to determine an individualized plan based on their needs and level of education. GED programs will be offered, as well as classes in independent living skills (budget making, résumé writing, meal planning, check writing/balancing, etc.). Classes will also be offered teaching vocational and computer skills, as well as parenting/childcare skills.

What is the Orange County Rescue Mission policy on drug use?

The Rescue Mission has a zero-tolerance stance on drug use. The Village of Hope will rely on random testing to enforce this policy.          top
